MFA Admission 2026

With a history that formally began in 1888 and deeper roots in the craft traditions of Travancore, the College has grown through changing ideas of art, education, student activism, and artistic practice. Its transformation from an industrial art school into a College of Fine Arts was an important shift towards a more independent and contemporary approach to art education, shaped over the years by committed faculty members, student interventions, intellectual debate, and the cultural life of Thiruvananthapuram.

Today, the MFA programmes provide an environment for studio practice, critical discussion, practice-led research, and independent thinking, with spacious studios, a strong library, and close access to museums, galleries, archives, cultural institutions, and the city’s active film and art communities. Kerala itself provides a distinctive setting for artists, with its dense visual and cultural histories, literary traditions, performing arts, craft practices, and varied landscapes providing many points of departure for observation, thought, and experimentation. The programme is intended for student-artists who wish to extend their practice, question inherited forms and assumptions, and develop their own positions within contemporary art. Recent graduates of the College have gone on to residencies, exhibitions, gallery representation, further research, and independent artistic practices across India and beyond.
